Our deepest regrets stem from inaction. We cannot get over something that didn’t occur. We’re instead left to ruminate over the many “could-have-been’s” of any opportunity that seemingly slips through our fingers.

And unfortunately - the bigger the dream, the easier it is to fail at the first step. To take any outward action, rather than sit within the safety of our inner world.

After giving birth to my daughter, I realized why I have such a propensity for taking confident (and sometimes blindly faithful) action. I find it fun. As I watched her begin to crawl, kick, stand & shake… she laughed.

Watching her laugh took me back to my 2 years working at Uber. Experimenting through action was core to what made both Uber and I successful. Taking ridiculously high risks was done so with a jovial camraderie. Someone would go “that idea sounds crazy - I love it”.

Uber’s experimentation culture was the adult equivalent of laughing your way through falling on your butt 1,000 times as a baby, laughing (okay, and sometimes crying) until you figured out how to walk.
